Spy-ware!?!?!?

I don't have a clue what is spy-ware and how can and does it harm my computer, but I have it. I havde AntiVir Guard (version 6.0) and it doesn't report nor find any viruses in my computer. My computer is now slower, everytime I open my I.E. it show me page: www.safetyhomepage.com and it constanstly bombs me with pop-ups even if my Yahoo! pop-up blocker is turned on. What can I do? I don't have a credit card, so I cannot pay for antivirus programs. Are there any free antiviruses I can use? Where can I find those? ThanX in advance! (This is driving me crazy, btw!!!)
