i recommand you to try firefox. which is more safe than IE.
it can block that annoying ads and disable any virus on webpage. as you know, most virus are spread through internet.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so it run faster than IE.

If you still have the install program. Try reinstalling it. I have norton antiviris 2006. and I had to reinstall it, then I updated it it told me that it was already registered and that I had the same amoult of days left then I uninstalled it. You may be luckly.
